Rome helps you reconnect through Bluetooth discovery or shared event attendance. Here's how both paths work.
How does matching work?
Rome gives you two ways to reconnect after seeing someone in real life: Bluetooth discovery and shared event attendance. In either case, you can express interest privately. A connection is only revealed when the interest is mutual.
How do event connections work?
You can browse upcoming events and show interest before attending. After an event, you can submit proof that you were there. Shared attendance then provides another way to reconnect with other attendees, even if Bluetooth discovery was not enabled at the time.
Why Bluetooth instead of GPS?
GPS tracking is invasive and battery-intensive. By using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Rome can detect when you're physically near someone without ever knowing your actual coordinates. This means your daily routine, home address, and movement patterns are never recorded or stored on our servers.
Is my data safe?
Yes. We use rotating identifiers that change every 15 minutes, making it impossible for someone to track your device over time. We don't sell your data to third parties, and we don't use tracking cookies or third-party analytics in the app.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. You can delete your account at any time directly from the Settings menu in the app. Deletion removes or anonymizes your personal account details, while some limited records may be retained where needed for safety, legal, anti-abuse, debugging, or operational purposes. Does the app work in the background?
Yes, Rome is designed to work passively in your pocket. As long as Bluetooth is enabled, the app will continue to see other users around you so you can check your matches later when it's convenient.
